Shillong, January 12: The killing of the four ANVC (B) militants and the recovery of a huge cache of arms, ammunition and bomb making equipment is being termed as the biggest success and haul in the region over the past six months.
The four militants were killed by the security personnel in Darenagal, near Chunmati, Dobasipara within the limits of the Tura town on Saturday night following the crude bomb attack by the militants that damaged two vehicles near Hawakhana petrol pump.
West Garo hills SP Mukesh Kumar Singh said, “It is the biggest crackdown in the last six months. We have managed to gun down four hardcore militants and busted their hideout. We strongly believe that it was used by ANVC(B). Our investigation and search operations are still on”.
Singh informed that based on specific inputs, the police conducted operation and managed to gun down four of the militants.
Their identity is still not known. Incriminating documents of ANVC (B) and UALA were recovered from the spot. The SP said the police are assuming that they were cadres of ANVC(B), and according to him there seems to be a nexus between the ANVC(B) and United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) and the recent episodes could have been perpetrated by them jointly.
“We are probing on the nexus of ANVC-B and UALA”, Singh said adding, “ANVC (B) UALA letterheads and money receipts strongly indicate that the two outfits were operating in close co-ordination”.
The gun battle at Darengagal, about 4 kms from Tura police station on Saturday night lasted for about 45 minutes.
Kumar said that the police believed that the militants got some input of the police movement and started to fire on the security personnel. The police retaliated and fierce fighting ensued at about 8:15 pm and lasted till 9 pm yesterday. Police informed that about twenty militants were taking shelter at the hideout when the operation was launched.
The police team reached the hideout on Sunday morning to investigate. During the investigation fifteen people were picked up on suspicion. “Singh said, “We will ascertain their identities and then take action accordingly.” The hideout has also been dismantled.
The police team also recovered six pistols, one DBBL rifle, twenty live ammunition, ten 12 bore cartridge, plenty of empty cases, 200 detonators, 130 detonators with fuse, twelve fused wires, two gelatin sticks, nine crude IED each weighing 10 kgs, ten bows and arrows, incriminating documents, one Chinese grenade and huge quantity of bomb making equipments. A house rent money receipt from Tura Municipal Board in the name of Rimpu Barnand Marak was also recovered from the hideout.-By Our Reporter
