Shillong, August 21: As the Banking Regulation Act will be placed before the parliament tomorrow, members of the National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE) unit Shillong are gearing up for the All India two-day general strike which is scheduled to begin Wednesday where all bank employees including staff and officers will cease work. The two days bank strike is have been called to pressurized the government to settle pending demands, stop arbitrary guidelines on HR issues, stop unilateral implementation of Khandelwal Committee Recommendations, stop outsourcing of bank jobs, stop banking sector reforms and stop closure of rural branches. Speaking to the NCBE Shillong unit members outside the State Bank of India (SBI) main branch Tuesday afternoon, NCBE Shillong unit general secretary Manoj Chakraborty said the strike is called for saving the rights of bank employees. Chakraborty said, “Even as today our leaders are meeting in reconciliation in Delhi, the strike will be held as scheduled because the outcome will be zero.” The last strike was held on August 6th where almost ten lacs officers and staff took part. Elaborating on the points of demand the union is making, NCBE Shillong unit president Subasish Endo said if share holders and banking rights increase, then public sector banks will close. “We struggle for our rights and we have to go by the recommendations of the Khandelwal Committee so that we can take decision on our own so that our banks can stay on top and not let any double standard role.” |
