TURA, APR 18: Bangladesh Supreme Court Justice Obaidul Hassan, who was sheltered at a relief camp during 1971 liberation war of Bangladesh at Moheskola in South Garo hills, on Monday said that he was bowled over by the beauty and greenery of Garo hills.
“I was 12 years old during the liberation war. My father was in-charge of a relief camp at Moheskola. We stayed at the relief camp for several days. I decided to visit Moheskola purely for tourism purpose, which is linked to my past and my family”, he said in an interview to this correspondent.
Hassan visited Moheskola along with his younger brother Saiful Hassan, head of a telecom firm in Bangladesh, who was a toddler during the liberation war.
Hassan’s father late Akhlaque Hossain Ahmed was one of the signatories of the constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He hails from Netrokona village in Bangladesh, close to Rongara – Moheskola area of South Garo Hills.
“We were at Moheskola and Baghmara for two days. The nature is at is best. However, the road connectivity is poor. I believe that if communication network is improved, there will be a boost in tourism from Bangladesh to Garo hills”, Hassan remarked.
He said that he had visited several parts of India earlier and had visited Shillong few years ago. Hassan and his brother had reached Tura yesterday evening. They are going back to Dhaka via Garo hills tomorrow. There are several entry points to Bangladesh from Garo hills.
