SHILLONG, SEPT 2: The PWD office in Nongpoh and Veterinary Integrated Cattle Development office in Umling in Ri Bhoi district were partially burnt when miscreants on Monday morning hurled petrol bombs.

The incidents took place at around 2.30 am on Monday, just two and half hours before the commencement of the twelve hours bandh called by the ngos who are pressing for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.

Ri Bhoi SP CVS Reddy told www.ohmeghalaya.com website that the miscreants also broke the window panes and some old records in the offices were damaged by the fire.

Reddy said police have arrested one person suspected to be involved in the incidents and interrogating him .He said police have beefed up security of all the government offices in Ri Bhoi  district.

As the twelve hours bandh got off at 5. 30 am on Monday, government offices, business establishments and education institutions were closed with roads wearing a deserted looks in Shillong and other parts of East Khasi hills district. Preceding the bandh  On Sunday evening miscreants lobbed petrol bombs at the CRPF camp in Mawlai on Sunday at 7.45 pm.

Around ten ngos that includes the KSU and FKJGP called for a twelve hours bandh to put pressure on the Meghalaya government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) after talk with the government failed.

The busy roads of the city wore a deserted look as only police vehicles were seen plying.

Despite the warning issued by the state chief secretary to the state government employees, the attendance in all the government offices including the secretariat remained thin.

Few ministers were seen coming to their office in the secretariat.

East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal told this website that the attendance in all the state government offices in his district is between 5-10 percent.

To prevent any untoward incident, the police have already intensified vigil in the city and police personnel were seen manning vulnerable areas of the city.

Children were seen playing different games on the deserted roads of the city.  Till filing of this report no untoward incident was reported from any parts of the city.

However on Sunday, unidentified miscreants hurled two petrol bombs at a CRPF camp at Mawlai Iewrynghep (bridge). Later, CRPF picked up four persons for interrogation.

Another petrol bomb was also hurled at a local taxi (MLO5 E 0226) at Langkyrding on Sunday midnight by miscreants partially damaging the vehicle.

Police later apprehended Samkupar Lyngdoh (28), Walstar Nongdhar (28), Anthony Sangma (32) and Balan Kharkongor (28), all from 7th mile, who were travelling in a Maruti van (ML05 H 8838) at midnight. Police recovered three bottles of kerosene from the apprehended persons –By Our Reporter
