TURA, JULY 22: 150 families in Rongjeng Block from 19 villages belonging to different social and religious communities were provided financial assistance and GI Tins on July 21 2016 by Bakdil, the social arm of Catholic Church for social concern and development.
Each family received three) bundles of tin costing Rs. 10500/- per household. The assistance was provided to those families who were most affected due to hailstorm on April 17th.
Immediately after the devastation which severely damaged the roofs of houses of more than 500 families, Fr. Charles Sangma, parish priest of Ronjeng Catholic Church reported the incident to Bakdil.
Bakdil appeal to many agencies seeking assistance for the affected families in the Year of Mercy.
An organization in Spain known as Manos Unidas responded to the appeal of Bakdil by providing Rs. 1575000/- all of which was fully utilized for the purchase of tins while the incidental cost were met from Bakdil Disaster Program Fund.
Speaking on the occasion Bishop Andrew R. Marak told the gathering that it is the Christian duty to love one another as we love ourselves. It is in fulfilling this duty towards providing neighbours and caring for each other that makes us better human being.
Fr. Sunny Joseph Mavelil, Director and secretary of Bakdil called upon the people to make effort towards self reliance through hard work and effectively utilizing central government schemes particularly the MGNREGS. Fr. Charles Sangma thanked Bakdil for making efforts to provide assistance to the people who were in need of support for the houses.-From Our Correspondent
