SHILLONG, JULY 31: The state government today asked the Director General of Home Gaurds and Civil Defence R Awasthi to temporarily look after the office of the Director General of Police (DGP).
The order was issued here on Tuesday following the retirement of the DGP Swaraj Bir Singh.
“Pending the approval of the Union Public Service Commission and in the interest of the public services, R Awasthi is temporarily allowed to look after the DGP office in addition to his own duties with effect from the date of retirement of SB Singh, DGP on July 31,” Home Commissioner and Secretary S Kharlyngdoh said in an order.
He also said that the order shall immediately cease on appointment of a full fledged Direct General of Police (DGP) of the state.
