SHILLONG, MAR 22: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday lauded the Assam Rifles for it’s incredibly contribution
in building the northeast by fighting insurgency and bringing peace and security in the region.
Addressing the troops of Assam Rifles at the 181st Raising day celebration, Rajnath Singh said that after the formation of Narendra Modi government, north eastern region has been an utmost priority of the centre. The government has fully acknowledged the importance of tackling insurgency in northeast and Assam Rifles has stood firm in their task.
He said, north-eastern India is the corridor connecting South East Asian countries which can boost the economy of the country.
Earlier, Singh accompanied by the Director General Assam Rifles HJS Sachdev and other senior officials of the force remembered the veteran soldiers who dedicated their lives in the line of duty.
Rajnath presented wreath in their names at the war memorial of Assam Rifles. He then unfurled India’s Tricolor in the Assam Rifles campus.
Director General Assam, Rifles HJS Sachdev while addressing the troops said that Assam Rifles is the oldest paramilitary force and in the coming years the jawans will stand the benefit as the force will be introducing more sophisticated weapons to counter insurgency.
At the end of his two day visit, Singh left for Guwahati in a BSF helicopter.- By Our Reporter
