SHILLONG, JULY 6: Assam Rifles (AR) personnel on Saturday forcibly took away one of its rifleman K Gurung from the police custody after a drunken group of the para-military force assaulted traffic policemen at Madanryting. Gurung was arrested following the assault by AR personnel. East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang informed that a group of inebriated AR personnel pushed traffic personnel identified as H Kharmalki, BK Chettri and R Saha as they had clamped a vehicle of the lady. In the attack, the lady including the traffic personnel were injured.
Police later identified one of the attacker riflemen K Gurung (22) and took him to the Madanryting police station.
However, shockingly a group of ten army personnel led by one captain identified as Vikrant and a major barged into the police station and forcibly took away Gurung.
Kharkhrang informed police will take up a case against the army personnel for trespassing even as an FIR against army personnel who assaulted the traffic policemen has been lodged.- By Our Reporter
