JOWAI, JUL 9: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was the chief guest at the Behdeinkhlam festival in Jaintia Hills on Thursday, where he carried a message of goodwill from Assam to Meghalaya.
Speaking at the sidelines, Sarma said the visit was aimed at reinforcing the bond between the two neighbouring states.
“I have given a message of goodwill from the state of Assam to our brothers in Meghalaya and most specifically to the brothers and sisters of Jaintia Hills. I convey my lots of good wishes and I pray for the success of the festival,” he said.
The Assam CM, who watched the traditional rituals with keen interest, said he was impressed by the festivities and plans to return.
“I will come again and I will also join the festival and I will also jump in the pond. I will definitely come back,” Sarma added.
As a mark of respect, a ceremonial sword was presented to him. The cover of the sword carried the inscription: “The sword that carves a path to peace.”
