TURA, JUNE 20: Meghalaya police arrested a A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) militant from a village near Purakhasia in West Garo Hills on Friday.
The militant identified as Balsrang Ch. Momin, 28 was picked up after a raid in his house at Junungpara in Purakhasia, along Indo-Bangla border, located about 48 km from Tura.
West Garo hills SP MUkesh Singh said, “We had specific inputs that the cadre was operating in Purakhasia and its adjoining villages. His house was raided and picked up at 10:30 am today. He has confessed that he is part of the outfit. Interrogation is on.”
ASAK is a breakaway faction of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and is headed by the former finance secretary of the GNLA, Reding T Sangma. The outfit was formed in February this year.- By Our Reporter
