SHILLONG, OCT 28: NPP’s strength lies in its unity despite being a big family, Deputy Chief Minister and party national vice president Sniawbhalang Dhar said on Wednesday, while formally welcoming former UDP legislators Paul Lyngdoh, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and Nujorki Sungoh.
Addressing the induction programme, Dhar thanked the three leaders and their families, supporters and constituency elders for reposing trust in the NPP.
“Thank you so much to these three leaders for the trust and confidence that you put on the NPP and also your family and your leaders who are here. Without you this day won’t be possible,” he said.
He said the induction reflects the party’s continuous growth.
“That is why we call NPP a family. Today it shows that NPP is growing day by day, hour by hour, month by month, year by year, specially under the leadership of both leaders — our national president and state president,” Dhar said.
Highlighting unity as the core strength, he said, “I always keep telling in every meeting that unity is the only quality which brings us to this level. Yes, we may have lapses between the leaders because we are a big family, lapses are always there, but at the end of the day we wind up the lapses and we come together. That is the unique speciality in the NPP party.”
Crediting the grassroots workers behind the decision, Dhar said, “I thank the elders from the three constituencies of Bah Renikton, Paul and Nujorki. Without you these leaders cannot take this decision because you are behind, you are the main pillars.”
He added that while the three are not just joining a strong party, the party will be stronger when everyone works together for the future.
On criticism that the NPP poaches MLAs and faces internal rift, Dhar said, “Many say NPP will split, NPP will steal MLAs. As long as they keep scaring us, we will work even harder, myself and both our presidents, because in politics work speaks louder than words.”
Seeking blessings for the party’s journey ahead, he said, “With the blessings of these three constituencies, along with the MLAs we have, we will build together and pray that God will protect our party. We are here to serve the people of our beloved state.”
“Once again we thank the NPR team — Nujorki, Paul and Renikton team — and party workers, because without them this work would not have been possible,” he concluded.
