SHILLONG, NOV 19: A 20-year-old youth was arrested for his alleged involvement in the stone-pelting incident, which took place during a public rally called by the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) on November 5.
George Rynjah, a resident of Lawsohtun Block-2, was arrested on November 18 in connection with the rioting by some miscreants during the public rally organized by the headmen in the city, East Khasi Hills District SP M Kharkrang said.
Earlier, the police had claimed that they have identified eight-ten activists belonging to the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) as the main “trouble-makers”, which led to the stone-pelting incident, resulting in the injury of at least 10 security personnel.
Kharkrang also informed that during the arrest, some women tried to prevent police from carrying out their lawful duty. “It is for general information that preventing police from carrying out their legal duty is crime under Indian Penal Code and police will not hesitate to take up a regular case against such people,” he warned. – By Our Reporter
