SHILLONG, SEPT 13: East Khasi hills police on Tuesday morning recovered arms, ammunition and explosives hidden inside a suitcase and a bag near a stream at Umsohlang, Nongksehrim in Upper Shillong. Police suspects that these arms an ammunition were meant for subversive activities.
The items were first spotted at 10.30 am by a group of four boys who went for fishing in the stream. They informed the police the village headman who immediately informed the police, SP (City) Vivek Syiem told reporters.
He said after conducting search, a suitcase and a school bag were found stashed in a hole near the bank of the stream.
The items found from inside them includes one shot gun, 135 LED pellets, 7 live cartridges, 90 electric detonators, 85 gelatin sticks, 3 ball pens, a water bottle and a small bag.
According to the SP, a case under arms Act and explosive Act have been registered under the Lumdiengjri Police Station.
When asked, Syiem said at this juncture the arms and ammunition cannot be apportion and prove to whom it belongs. However he said the seized items will also be sent for forensic.-By Our Reporter
