SHILLONG, AUG 4: Taking a jibe at the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chief executive member (CEM) PN Syiem, HSPDP legislator and former CEM Ardent M Basaiawmoit ridiculed the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) saying Syiem wanted to turn it to Pynshngain Democratic Forum and project it as an alternative political party as he was frustrated with his on Front (PDF) as an alternative political party as he is frustrated with his present the Congress of which he is a member.
Basaiawmoit’s jibes came after allegations were hurled by ruling PDF against the previous EC led by the ARPA on the land deal in Mawkyrwat and the inquiry report on the alleged scam in the construction of the Khasi Heritage Village.
“The allegations made by the KHADC CEM PN Syiem against the ARPA shows that he is frustrated because he is being sideline by his own party (Congress),” Basaiawmoit, also one of the leaders of the All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA), told reporters on Tuesday.
Alleging that the CEM is trying to project the PDF, a coalition ruling in the district council as an alternative political party, the HSPDP leader said, “Syiem wanted to convert the PDF to Pynshngain Democratic Forum.”
On Monday, KHADC decided to scrap the land deal in Mawkyrwat allegedly signed by former KHADC CEM Ardent M Basaiawmoit and Nolip Star Lyngdoh, for the purpose of setting up the council’s branch office.
Lyngdoh is the owner of a land measuring 11750 square feet and the agreement for acquiring land was at Rs 32.25 lakh.
Refuting to this, Basaiawmoit said, “The decision to acquire the land in Mawkyrwat was actually the initiative of the previous executive committee led by the Khasi Hills United Democratic Alliance (KHUDA),” adding “The land agreement was made between the then EM Antonio N War and former MDC of Mawkyrwat Enbin Kharaswai.”
Basaiawmoit went on to inform that during his tenure as the CEM, he had only approved and sanctioned this decision adding that as per inspection the land is located at the centre of the market and suitable for setting up of the branch office of the council.
Basaiawmoit refuted saying that to allege he had done it without the knowledge of the council is wrong and incorrect.
He informed that ngos from the area had strongly opposed to the move by the council to change the location by proposing to set up the branch office at another location identified at Rangmaw, which is 5km away from Mawkyrwat.
Earlier, the PDF had also alleged that ARPA has failed to make public the inquiry report which has found that there is no scam involved in the implementation of the Khasi Heritage Village at Mawphlang.
Reacting to this, Basaiawmoit said that the ARPA had instituted the inquiry based on RTI findings which have alleged that there is misappropriation of funds while implementing the project at Mawphlang.
“We (ARPA) have not alleged against anybody but we felt it necessary to institute an inquiry to find out the truth and facts,” the former KHADC CEM said adding “To level allegation against ARPA without any truth in it is also not right.”
On the de-notifying of the Khasi Heritage Village Managing Committee (KHVMC), to which was tasked ensure that the heritage village is maintained; Basaiawmoit said that it is natural that when a new executive committee is formed in the council, all committees have to be denotify.
He also argued how the ARPA EC could take up developmental activities in the heritage village when the
the allegation by the PDF that the ARPA had instituted the inquiry because venue is under controversy at that time.
The HSPDP leader also rejected they wanted to politically malign the EC led by the KHUDA (now PDF).
He said ARPA is clear that it doesn’t have any political agenda against anybody but the fact is that time when the allegation was made against the implementation of the project, it was the duty of the ARPA to find out the truth. – By Our Reporter
