ANVC(B) asks tribal to unite and fight outside forces

Shillong, Oct 5: Giving a call to all the tribal in Meghalaya to united and fight against infiltrators and foreign policies, the ANVC-B said these elements are creeping in from across the borders at an alarming rate.

In a statement issued Friday, the ANVC(B) said,  “There is a visible rise of infiltrators in not less than 8 constituencies in Garo Hills and it is sure to double in coming years, which means we lose our reservation making it open seats.”

The release stated that this is a well-planned policy targeting to bring imbalance to the tribal population and bring drastic change to the ‘very’ status of the xixth schedule.”

The ANVC-B alleged that there are twelve politicians who are encouraging illegal settlement in Garo Hills making them their permanent vote bank and protecting them from all steps taken by the Nokmas and social organisations.

The statement said, “Politicians took advantage of the ignorance of the village folks and the council violated the land transfer act of the Sixth schedule by issuing documents on calls made by MLAs.”

The statement called on the concerned citizens of Garo Hills not to rent houses, lease out lands to people without proof of origin and police verification. It also said, “Nokmas should not allow outsiders to settle in their lands and list out people who are residing without permission and report to authorities.” It warned that if the state do not take steps, then they  will.

The ANVC(B) also felt that the church and the social organisations need to make the people  aware of the tribal our constitutional rights which is over the land. –By Our Reporter
