SHILLONG, JAN 9: Accusing the West Garo hills SP Mukesh Kumar Singh of handling the volatile situation in the district like in the Bollywood movies, ANVC (B) publicity secretary Doang Shira warned that displacing its cadres will only result in the deterioration of the law and order in Garo hills.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, Shira also accused Singh of handling the law and order situation in the West Garo hills district like in the Hindi movies. He said, “The SP orders ANVC (B) ko sapai karo, and lo… hamla (attack).”

On Tuesday, the police had accused the ANVC (B) of attacking its police party who it claimed had gone to the ANVC (B) camp in Tura relating to a missing FIR filed by the outfit. But the ANVC (B) responded to the accusation saying that the outfit did not attack the police party but did it in self defence after it was provoked by the policemen inside their campus. Two policemen had received injuries during the firing inside the ANVC (B) camp.

Saying that the government must institute a magisterial inquiry into Tuesday incident, Shira said that the situation in Garo hills is really volatile and sensitive. He said that the police is bend on wiping out the outfit.

Shira also reminded that the ANVC (B), which is an armed group, had signed a ‘PEACE PACT’ on January last year and accordingly has been asking for maintaining an official ceasefire with the government. He said that act of the police of filing an FIR against him and registering an arms case against the outfit chairman,  who was not even in the camp during the Tuesday incident,  confirms the outfit fear that somebody wants the ANVC(B ) out of the “final settlement.”

Shira felt that the state government must act sensibly to bring back normalcy in Garo hills and destroying the ANVC (B) camp will only sent negative message to the outfit’s cadres and offset effort to bring back peace in the region.

Debunking the police claim that the ANVC (B) had filed an FIR with regard to the outfit’s missing cadres, Shira claimed, “There was no FIR filed with the police on the missing cadres by the outfit.” He said the police just wanted an excuse to break into their camp without any information.

Reiterating that the ANVC (B) wants peace and normalcy in Garo hills,   Shira said that the government must work out a rehabilitation package for the ANVC (B) cadres for ushering a lasting peace in the Garo hills region. – By Our Reporter
