Shillong, Nov 12:Even as one more civilians- who was injured and admitted in the hospital after being fired by militants in Nongal in South Garo hills on Saturday- died in Tura Civil Hospital Monday morning, South Garo hills Superintendent of Police DN Marak asserted that the firing was the handiwork of the ANVC (B) even though the militant outfit had issued a denial on Sunday.
With Monday’s death, the toll of the civilians who died because of the militants firing rose to four death. Four others who have received bullet injuries are still in the hospital undergoing treatment.Marak said he is yet to receive the details of the civilian who died today morning.
South Garo hills Superintendent of Police DN Marak told www.ohmeghalaya.com website Monday after the fourth civilian died in the Tura civil hospital that operation against the militants was still continuing in the district.
Marak, however, refused to buy the denial of the ANVC(B) saying that it was the handiwork of this militant outfit. He said, “ Initially we thought that it was the work of the GNLA, but later we got creditable information that it was the ANVC(B) militants who attacked the police vehicle and opened fire in the market that led to the killing of four civilians and injuring that many.”
Buttering his assertion, Marak said that the ANVC(B) had served demand note to some people in the Nongal area but people refused to cough up the money. He said, “ To teach them a lesson and instill fear on the people, the ANVC attack the police party and also killed the civilians.” –By Our Reporter
