ANLA militants surrender

TURA, JAN 24: Three A’chik National Liberation Army (ANLA) militants onSaturday surrendered before Meghalaya police at Nengkra police check post, near Williamnagar in East Garo hills.  The three militant were on the run after unleashing terror in several parts of Garo hills. They were also wanted by other outfits for internal conflicts.

The three surrendered at 2:15 noon.

The three have been identified as Simon Momin, 18, Chonseng Marak, 19 and Heff Momin, 17. All residents of West Khasi Hills. Police say that they were from the first batch of the outfit.

Police said the militants were on the run after the fratricidal killing of their area commander, Nengja G Momin, a few months ago.   “They made a confession of killing their own area commander”, said Davis Marak, East Garo hills SP.

Nengja was killed last year at Mahadep village in South Garo Hills.

“They have surrendered out of fear and retaliation from their own members”, SP added.

On interrogation, the militants revealed that their team was responsible for the shooting of the employee of the Nengja check gate in South Garo hills, which took place a few months ago.

They surrendered with one 9mm pistol along with 5 rounds and one 7.65mm with two rounds. They were operating out of Shallang in West Khasi hills district.-From Our Correspondent
