SHILLONG, JAN 19: Meghalaya urban affairs minister and Laitumkhrah legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh has been accused by the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) of violating the election model code of conduct and accordingly demanded action from the state election department.
The women organization has accused Lyngdoh of implementing two construction works sanctioned under SRWP (MLA) scheme in Laitumkhrah area of East Shillong constituency.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said in a press statement Saturday, “We will file a complaint to the state election commission against violation of the model code of conduct by the sitting MLA and hope that action will be taken immediately.”
According to the organization, the Lyngdoh has approved and according work for the construction of a footpath in Demseiniong, Laitumkhrah started in January 16 and another in Nongrimmaw, Laitumkhrah in January 17.
The press statement said, “This clearly shows that the works have been started even after the date announced for the elections, thereby violating the model code of conduct.”
Kharshiing also accused that the construction is substandard and the organization will take up with the engineers of the municipal as it poses danger to the pedestrians. She said, “We will take up with the engineers of the municipal and get them to check if this work is safe. Due to rampant corruption most engineers seem not to monitor the works and okays the substandard works.”
Kharshiing also said that the way schemes are being sanctioned clearly show it was being done for votes.” – By Our Reporter
