SHILLONG, FEB 9: The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organization (AJYWO) on Thursday demanded that the state government appoints adequate doctors and employees in its health centres at East Jaintia hills district. “We demand the government to appoint adequate number of doctors and staffs in all the health centres in the district to ensure quality health care to the people,” AJYWO president MH Dkhar said in a statement on Thursday.
He felt the problem of shortage of manpower in the Khliehriat Community Health Centre (CHC) and the delay in making the 100-bedded hospital functional has affected the people of the district.
He also said that a delegation of the AJYWO in a recent meeting with the acting DM&HO were informed that the Khliehriat CHC have been functioning with only one doctor for the past two weeks.
“We feel that it is not possible for one doctor to cater to various requirement and attend in-patient, out-patient, post-mortem and emergency cases,” he said adding “This reflect the insensitive attitude of the government towards the health interest of its people.”
Dkhar said that it is time that the CHC should be upgraded to a civil hospital because health should be given top priority. “It will be meaningless if the government brings development and skipps such an important attention,” he added.
The AJYWO also demanded the state government to speed up making operational of the 100-bedded hospital in Khliehriat and also to appoint a full-fledged DM&HO.
