AITC leader files PIL against MDA Govt

SHILLONG, AUG 25: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) national spokesperson Saket Gokhale on Wednesday filed a PIL against the alleged move of the NPP-led MDA government to disconnect electricity for entire villages because of handful of defaulters.

He questioned the competency of the proxy BJP government in a tweet: “Meghalaya Govt under @SangmaConrad & BJP has a cruel tactic of cutting electricity to entire villages just because 1 or 2 people have pending bills. I’ve filed a PIL on this in Meghalaya HC. @AITC4Meghalaya will fight tooth & nail against the proxy BJP govt. for people’s rights.”

Lambasting the MDA government’s apathy, Meghalaya TMC tweeted:

“MeECL’s UNFAIR tactics must come to an END! We are against the proxy-BJP Govt’s inhuman practice of barring electricity supply to entire villages for a few pending bills. We will get to the bottom of this Govt’s cruel actions, and fight for our people’s rights!”

Earlier on this issue, TMC National Spokesperson Saket Gokhale had written to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong questioning the heinous move to disconnect electricity in the villages of Rari and Kosi Chora, North Garo hills and Dingrepa and Matchu Ki because of a handful of defaulters.

In his previous letter, he had also urged the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya to take immediate action against the MeECL officials who are involved ‘in this criminal practice of blackmail, coercion, and intimidation by shutting off transformers to the villagers.’

Considering the MDA government’s procrastination in paying the MeECL bills in the past, this insensible move exposes the current government’s hypocrisy. The double-engine government continues to fool and fail the people of Meghalaya.
