SHILLONG, APR 23: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Saturday reiterated demand for an independent inquiry into the alleged illegal mining and transportation of coal in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said that the government has acted as an accused when it has been in a denial mode that there is illegal coal mining and its transportation.
“When have they said that there is illegality going on? Have you heard the government at any point of time not being in denial mode at any point of time? You have heard what the CM said, you have heard what the deputy CM said, you have heard what the home minister said – you know what is happening, the people of the state know what is happening,” he said.
Stating this proves beyond reasonable doubt that the government has acted as an accused, the former chief minister further said, “Now if their (Govt) action speaks to prove beyond reasonable doubt that they are acting as an accused that we have every reason to ask for an independent inquiry.”
