SHILLONG, MAY 24: The AICC on Tuesday reportedly decided to summon the Congress legislators to Delhi to discuss the state leadership issue raked up by some legislators and ministers after the debacle of the party candidate Dikkanchi Shira in the recently concluded Tura Lok Sabha polls.
A meeting was held in New Delhi today between the AICC chief Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi, in-charge V Narayanasamy and Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president DD Lapang.
The meeting was also attended by Shillong Member of Parliament (MP) Vincent H Pala. However, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma was not in attendance.
“MPCC president DD Lapang has appraised the party high command on the present situation,” a Congress senior leader informed.
The decision to knock on the AICC door reportedly followed a letter from dissident members which include ministers demanding for change of leadership. However the veracity of the letter could not be ascertain by former chief minister and senior Congress leader SC Marak said that there is no such letter.
Disgruntle Congress legislator reportedly alsoexpressed their unhappiness over the style and functioning of Sangma.
A party leader on request of anonymity said, “After the meeting, the AICC has decided to call the party MLAs to Delhi for resolving the matter.” According to party sources, the upcoming meeting in Delhi will decide the fate of the chief minister Mukul Sangma.
“A decision will be decided in the national capital,” the party source said. The ruling Congress in Meghalaya has a total strength of 30 members which include 16 legislators from Khasi and Jaintia Hills region while 14 from Garo Hills region.-By Our Reporter
