SHILLONG, DEC 10: After one month of battling for her life, women’s rights activist Agnes Kharshiing finally got discharged from the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS) on Monday afternoon.
Hospital’s public relations officer (PRO) Dr KK Pandita informed that since the patient’s condition has gradually improved significantly, it was decided to discharge her today with further home medication and medical advice.
“She (Agnes) is asked to attend follow up in OPD of Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and orthopaedics,” Dr Pandita said.
The PRO said that Anges had also undergone fixation of right olecranon fracture (CRIF with CCS) under General anaesthesia on November 28.
Agnes and her aide Amita Sangma were admitted in the super specialty hospital with multiple head injuries after they were brutally attack by a group of suspected coal mafia in Tuber Sohshrieh village in East Jaintia Hills District, just after taking pictures of coal laden trucks on November 8.
Amita was discharged on November 30.
Agnes’s brother John F Kharshiing said, “She has been discharged today at around 3.45pm. She will be in her younger brother’s house in Shillong for the moment till further assessment and advice from NEIGRIHMS.”
He said the immediate family members also give thanks to God almighty, for his blessings and care in the miraculous recovery of Agnes Kharshiing, and Amita Sangma, while appreciating the untiring efforts of the Director, the Medical Superintendent, Heads of Department, Doctors and staff of NEIGRIHMS besides doctors and staff of Ialong Civil Hospital Jowai, Medical Team of I08 Ambulatory services.
The family members also expressed their gratitude to the Governor of Meghalaya, Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Chairman, MSPB, Union Ministry of Health, Govt of India, Leader of Opposition, MLAs, MDCs, NEC secretary, Ajay Singh, CMD, SpiceJet, Meghalaya Police, MSCW, Syiem, Dorbar Shnong, Seng Kur Kharshiing, State, National and International NGOs, Sports Fraternity, Church Elders, family members and friends, and especially the print and electronic Media for there prayers and solidarity during our crisis and work in helping her recover.
Earlier, the family members of the two activists have also expressed concern over the state government’s adamant attitude to hand over the case relating to the brutal attack on the two women to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
They also expressed regrets that even after thirty days have passed the ongoing criminal investigation inspite of modern IT and latest technologies available have not been able to arrest the masternind culprits and conspirators.
