SHILLONG, MAR 16: Agitated Mawshbuit villagers blocked the Dronacharya Gate of 58 Gorkha Training Centre in Happy Valley on Wednesday after the army restricted the movement of the residents who uses the routes. However, the crowd was later on dispersed agitated village residents and removed the blockade.
In a statement issued by the defense PRO group captain Amit Mahajan said that the security of the 58th GTC restricted as part of the security measures taken across the country on army establishment due to ongoing security situation in the country.
Mahajan informed that a meeting was also organised with the headman of Mawshbuit village (located adjacent to 58 GTC which is has an entry through 58 Gorkha Training Centre.) to sensitise him of the situation.
He said the headman was requested to extend co-operation of the village to ensure a smooth security situation to facilitate easy entry and exit of residents of Mawshbuit village with an assurance that right of way to the locals would not be stopped.
The GTC authority asked for list of village personnel and vehicles who would pass through the GTC gate.
Mahajan clarified that however on Wednesday during routine checking of vehicles (not belonging to the village), the local residents put up a blockade outside the Dronacharya Gate of 58 GTC thereby restricting any movement and the same was intimated to the civil administration by 58 GTC.
Mahajan informed that an ADM and DSP (traffic) promptly responded and immediately came to 58 GTC, for a meeting with the Commandant, 58 GTC and steps to resolve were discussed. The civil administration dispersed the agitators and got the blockade removed, he added.- By Our Reporter
