SHILLONG, MAR 25: Twenty-two year old aggrieved mother Mondabeka Marngar filed a police complaint against the Ganesh Das hospital for allegedly being responsible for the death of her new born baby because of negligence during the caesarean operation.
Marngar of Myriaw village in West Khasi hills district filed an FIR with the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) on Monday urging the police to exhume the baby and punish the erring doctors and those involved as per law.
In her complaint, Marngar alleged, “There was a gross negligence on the part of the doctors who have conducted the operation on me. They have killed my child due to their negligence.”
Marngar was admitted in the Ganesh Das Hospital on March 16 and she was informed by the hospital authority that she is going to have twins. She was, however, operated on the evening of March 17 after labour pain.
Marngar told reporters, “I heard the baby cry after it was taken out by operation,” but she added that on March 18 around 2 pm the baby was shifted to the Nazareth hospital on the advice of the nurses from Ganesh Das Hospital.
Marngar claims that only on March 20 she came to know that her child had died and said, “I did not see my baby but I saw the photograph of my baby which was taken by my father who did not show it to me immediately as I was under depression.”
Marngar informed that the photo of the baby was shown to her only today after which she decided to file police complaint.
Claiming that the baby’s organs were outside the body due to the wrong cuts during the operation, Marngar pleaded with the police to investigate into the death of her child and take legal and punitive action against those involved.
Meanwhile, the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) while condemning the incident said that it would soon take up the matter with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to ensure justice is delivered to the aggrieved mother.- By Evanjoplin Dkhar
