SHILLONG, MAR 25 Chief Minister and NPP national president Conrad K Sangma has clarified that Agatha Sangma’s name was listed as a star campaigner despite being the chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights due to a mistake.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, Sangma said, “That was in fact incorrect and we have already written to the election commission to delete her name.”
He explained that Agatha Sangma had informed him at the beginning that she would not be campaigning, considering it improper given her position.
“Just to share with you, she has already shared with me in the beginning that she will not be campaigning as it is not proper for her to campaign,” he said.
Sangma attributed the inclusion of her name to a communication gap within the party’s campaign team.
“Due to some kind of shortcomings and the party campaign team not being communicated that part, they ended up putting her name because she is a senior leader of the party and they think it appropriate,” he said.
He assured that corrective measures were being taken.
“But to take corrective measures, I have already communicated to the election commission that they should remove her name from the list of main campaigners,” Sangma said.
