After Tura, Devil’s worship worries Goyal

SHILLONG, MAY 12: After shocking both the society and the district administration of Garo hills by  youths who were indulging in  “Devil worship,” this trend has now caught up with Khasi hills too  as reports suggests that devil worship is taking place in Motinagar forest ad other places where graveyards are located.

Taking a serious note of this trend among the youngsters, East Khasi hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goel has sought the cooperation of localities and churches of different denomination in worrisome issue.

Goyal told reporters on Monday,“We have written to heads of all the localities and church leaders seeking their cooperation on the matter in order to come up with some sort of a strategyto tackle this issue.”

Goyal felt that since this trend is a social issue, the district administration has decided to work out a strategy in consultation with the society.  He said, “We want to understand the issue before taking action and seeking the cooperation of the society is an initiative to also convey a message to the society that the district administration is always there for them.”

Stating that as of now, there are not much actionable inputs on this trend, Goyal said, “However, we have requested the localities to keep vigil in their jurisdiction especially where graveyards are located.” According to him in certain locations it might be there, but surprisingly nobody has come forward to lodge complaints against such practices,

Asserting that information from public is of prime importance, Goyal said, “The localities and even family members or the church should take the district administration into confident.” Pointing that such practices is going to impact the society as a whole, he said there is a need to identify top leaders who are spearheading the devil’s worship.- By Our Reporter
