SHILLONG, APR 28:Chief Justice (Acting) of Meghalaya High Court Justice S.R. Sen, who is also Executive Chairman, Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) today inaugurated the Legal Services Camp on the theme “Root out Poverty” at Mawphlang village, East Khasi Hills District.
The Camp was organized by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority and the District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya for Mylliem and Mawphlang Community and Rural Development Block.
The inaugural function was also attended by the local MDC, Shri L. Blah, Chief Secretary, Shri Y. Tsering, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Law department, Shri W. Khyllep, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shri P. S. Dkhar, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shri D. N. R. Marak, Registrar General, High Court of Meghalaya, Smt. B. Mawrie, Member Secretary, Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority Shri W. Diengdoh, District and Sessions Judge-cum- Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Shri Noor Ain Khan, Government officials and the general public.
During the occasion, the Chief Guest also distributed wheelchair, white walking sticks to the differently abled persons, sewing machines, and work order for various MGNREGA schemes implemented by the C&RD Block to the beneficiaries.
Earlier, to mark the occasion, the chief Guest along with other dignitaries also planted tree saplings.
It may be mentioned that the National Legal Services Authority had developed a new model of holding Legal Services Camp which would not only make people aware about their entitlements and procedural aspects relating to the same but also connect them to the welfare schemes meant for them.
The Legal Services Camp was participated by the various State and Central Government departments, banks institutions and NGOs. More than 40 stalls were set up at the venue to display about various welfare schemes and also to facilitate the general public the required procedures for obtaining them. Free medical check up was also conducted in the camp for the general public.
