TURA, JAN 19: One of the seven traders, who was abducted by militants on Friday last, managed to escape from the clutches of the militants, when Meghalaya police raided the hideout at Gabil Ading village, near Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills. The trader identified as Tustu Pal was abducted along with six others, while they were returning from a weekly market at Dokongsi in North Garo Hills, which is along Assam – Meghalaya border.
All the traders are from Dorenggre village in Assam’s Goalpara district.
Meghalaya IGP (operation) GHP Raju said, “The operation was launched at Gabil Ading village based on intelligence inputs that the militants had kept the traders hostage. We had information that all the seven traders were kept there. However, as the sentry point of the militant spotted us, we could not rescue the traders. They managed to flee with six traders”.
Pal managed to escape and reported at Rongmil police outpost in North Garo Hills Tuesday afternoon. The operation at Gabil Ading is on along with police and SWAT commandos. “Pal has received head injuries, as he fell down from a hilltop while fleeing from the militants’ captivity”, Raju added.-From Our Correspondent
