SHILLONG, DEC 5: Three persons were today arrested by the police for high jacking a truck and abducting its driver and three of the occupants from Tyrsad area. East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said that the police arrested Shemphang Marbaniang of Pohkseh, Dilip Bhattacharjee of Rynjah, Mukul Banarjee of Pohkseh, and Dulit Diengdoh of Umkdait Nongmynsong for the abduction.
Kharkhrang informed the three were involved in abducting the truck driver Jahangir Hussain and the other occupants identified as Arun Kumar Jamatia and Monirul Islam and also hijacked the truck (AS01-DC-6578) at Tyrsad and Weiloi.
The truck was carrying scrap items worth Rs 2.70 lakh.
The three accused made a demand of Rs 80,000 from the owner of the truck for the release of the abducted people and also assaulted Monirul Islam and looted money Rs 4000 from him, Kharkhrang informed on Thursday.
The three persons were rescued by the special cell team and the truck was also recovered from Umkdait, Nongmynsong. Kharkhrang informed that the three accused have been remanded to five days police custody.
DROWNING CASE: Two youths reportedly drowned at Umthumthum river . The deceased have been identified as Bondonnam Kharsyntiew(14) and Pawan Konwar (12) of Lower Lachumiere locality in Shillong.
A missing report was lodged at Sadar police station on Wednesday by the family members of the youths. Police, however, found their clothes on the banks of UmthumthumRiver The Fire and Emergency Rescue Team searched under the water and recovered their bodies.
It is believed that they died of drowning while swimming. Police, however, said that the enquiry is still under way to ascertain the death of the two youths.- By Our Reporter
