SHILLONG, SEPT 25: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Regional Office, Guwahati has taken serious note on the complaint that unscrupulous persons were charging Rs 100 for per Aadhaar enrolment form in Meghalaya.
“It has come to the notice of this Office that some unscrupulous persons were charging Rs 100 for per Aadhaar enrolment form from residents of a district in the State, which is illegal and violation of Aadhaar rules and regulations,” UIDAI, RO Guwahati IEC Manager Mitun Chakraborty said in a statement issued here on Monday.
Informing the residents of Meghalaya that Aadhaar enrolment is completely free of cost, Chakraborty said that as per rule, the Aadhaar enrolment forms must be available at the enrolment centres for the residents free of cost.
“Therefore, we appeal to the residents of Meghalaya that if they find any enrolment centre/enrolment operator charging money for Aadhaar enrolment then immediately inform/contact UIDAI, Regional Office Guwahati on 0361-2228081/ 2228080 or inform by emailddgro_ner@uidai.net.in,” he said.
According to him, residents may also lodge this complaint to concerned District Authority.
On the basis of such complaint, he said the UIDAI, RO,Guwahati will take appropriate legal action against those involved in such corrupt practices.
In order to curb cases of charging/overcharging money by private operators for enrolment/ updation of Biometric & Demographic details, the UIDAI has also asked state governments to ensure that all enrolments, even those by private agencies, shift to government or municipal premises from external sites and ensure that they come under direct supervision of the authorities.
At present Aadhaar enrolment is going on in 8 districts and rest 3 districts which include North Garo Hills, East Garo Hills & South West Garo Hills will be started shortly.
The total Aadhaar generation in the state till date is 4,07,178.
