SHILLONG, MAY 19: Girls outshone boys in both the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations 2014 conducted the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE). The results of both SSLC and HSSLC were declared Monday morning.
The girl students performed better as they bagged 18 of the top twenty positions of the SSLC examination while 8 girls secured the top ten positions in the HSSLC examination.
The total pass percentage of the SSLC examination stood at 54.31 per cent which is 2 percent less over the last year’s results of 56.31 per cent.
However, in the HSSLC examination the pass percentage of 68.13 is an increase by 10.94 per cent over last year’s result which was only 57.19 per cent.
In the SSLC examination the percentage of female candidates who pass stood at 83.38 per cent compared to 73.86 percentages of their male counterparts.
Similarly, out of 20, 895 students who appeared in the HSSLC examination, a total of 14, 235 were declared successful. The female pass percentage stood at 81.62 per cent while male percentage stood at 81.51 percent.
While Sourav Pathak, a student of Ram Krishna Mission Higher Secondary School, Cherrapunji topped in SSLC examination by securing 571 marks, Subhenu Karmakar from Tura Town Higher Secondary, Tura, West Garo Hills District and Neil Leeson Syiemlieh of Kiddies Corner Secondary School, Shillong bagged the topped second and third positions respectively.
In the HSSLC, Amika K War, a student of Auxillium Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong bagged the top position securing 431 marks, St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong student Bethea Meba Alhun K Sohkhlet and Kritika Goenka of St Mary’s College bagged the second and third position respectively.
HSSLC topper Amika K War expressed her gratitude to her teachers and parents. She said, “I did not expect that I will achieved this much, but all I know is that I have put all efforts and faith in myself. My achievement today is the outcome of hard work and dedication to my studies.”
Expressing similar views, Neil who got the third position said, “Though the result was so unexpected but I attribute my success to God, parents and the teachers for their guidance.”
East Khasi Hills district registered highest pass percentage with 78.18 per cent while South Garo Hills district secured the lowest percentage of pass with 22.67 in the SSLC examination.
In the HSSLC (Arts stream), Ri Bhoi district secured the highest percentage with 82.64 per cent while South West Garo Hills district registered the lowest pass percentage with 40.70 per cent.
Meanwhile, as many as 40 SSLC candidates and 21 HSSLC candidates mostly from Garo Hills have been debarred from appearing at the next SSLC and HSSLC examination, 2015 after they were expelled for adopting unfair means during the board examinations.- By Our Reporter
