SHILLONG, DEC 1: An eighty-two year old man died of COVID-19 taking the death toll in the state to 112 on Tuesday.
Dr VP Sinha, a resident of Laban,, opposite Garrison ground, Shillong passed away at the Military hospital on November 30, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
“The cause of death was due to severe pneumonia with respiratory failure due to COVID-19 with CAB with CKDwith type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension,” he said.
The state has recorded highest single-day recovery of 158 COVID-19 patients while 65 new cases were detected on Tuesday.
He said the persons who recovered from the viral infection include 70 from West Garo Hills district, 65 East Khas Hils district, 8 South Garo Hiills district, 4 Ri Bhoi district and 3 South West Garo Hills district.
Of the 65 new cases, Dr War said 36 are from East Khasi Hills, 16 East Garo Hills, 7 West Garo Hills, 3 South West Garo Hills, 2 South West Khasi Hills and 1 West Jaintia Hills.
Those tested positive also include 4 health workers from East Khasi Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 11,875 COVID-19 cases out of which 669 are active cases, 11,094 recovered and 112 deaths.
Dr War said the fatality rate due to COVID-19 is 0.94 percent.
Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 374 positive cases, West Garo Hills 141, South Garo Hills 31, Ri Bhoi 30, South West Garo Hills 23, West Jaintia Hills 18, East Garo Hills 29, East Jaintia Hills 4, West Khasi Hills 10, North Garo Hills 7 and South West Khasi Hills 2.
“Till date, swab samples of 2,43,668 persons have been tested of which 2,31,793 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.
There are 65,732 entrants from outside the state.
