SHILLONG, FEB 27: Shillong police exhumed the body of a seven year old girl on Friday to ascertain a complaint lodged that she was sexually abuse before her death.. The body exhumed at a cemetery in Mawlai Mawroh by a team of medical professionals in the presence of police and magistrate, police informed.
“The body was exhumed and examination has also been conducted to ascertain whether the deceased minor was sexually assaulted or not,” a police officer said.
A person identified as Walphang Sun (45) was arrested by Mawlai police based on an FIR filed against him alleging that he had allegedly raped the girl in a jungle near NEHU campus. According to the police official, the FIR had also alleged that the accused had committed the crime against the minor twice.
The seven year old girl from Mawlai Kynton Massar died on the spot after a tree trunk accidentally fell on her body. The incident took place on February 13.
But after police received information about the girl’s death, the East Khasi Hills police took up investigation. Police said that they would also investigate whether her death has any connection with sexual assaulted case.- By Our Reporter
