SHILLONG, MAR 4: A total of six persons have been arrested for their involvement in the recent attack on migrant labourers engaged for construction of a college in South West Khasi Hills District.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) Gabriel K Iangrai informed that one more person was arrested today in connection with the incident which transpired at St. Xavier’s College in Umoid on February 24.
With this, a total of six persons have been arrested so far, he said.
The AIGP further informed that the investigation of the case is in progress to establish the identities and arrest more person(s) who are involved in the crime.
On the night of February 24, a group of masked miscreants attacked eight labourers engaged for construction of the St Xavier’s College girl’s hostel at Umoid village.
All the labourers had sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the Mawkyrwat CHC for medical examination. Two of the eight labourers – Raju Mondol and Shahinoor Alom sustained serious injuries on their persons for which they had to be referred to Shillong civil hospital for further treatment. Mondol however succumbed to his injuries.
