SHILLONG, JAN 17: As many as 55,423 new voters have been enrolled in the final publication of the state electoral roll in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and 25, 900 are female voters.
Interestingly, half of the new enrolments in the final publication consist of youths in the age group of 18-19 years since 28, 149 new enrols are in the age group of 18-19.With the new inclusion, the total number of electorates in the state has gone 1553028 out of which female electorates are 783270 and male are 769758
To chalk out the strategies for the forthcoming elections, a review meeting was held on Thursday by Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer P Naik with the deputy commissioners and sub divisional officer to review the poll preparedness of the state.
Speaking to media persons, Naik informed that the meeting discussed various issues of upcoming National Voters Day besides the law and order situation during the elections.
Stating that the department will make an assessment of the law and order situation, Naik said that the election department does not foresee any major law and problems though there are some disturbed areas in Garo Hills The election department will request the state government for providing security in all the polling booths during the elections
The meeting also discussed the training of elections officials who would be put on elections duty. Parliamentary elections will be held for two seats in Meghalaya the Shillong seat and the Tura seat along with the rest of the country.- By Our Reporter
