Tynsong to soon call meeting on Harijan colony
SHILLONG, JUNE 28: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong will soon call a meeting to know the status of the proposed blueprint for relocation of 342 families of Sweepers’ Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.
“Very soon I am going to call a meeting with the urban affairs department and inter-connected departments and thereafter I will see whether the blueprint is ready or not,” Tynsong, who is also heading the High Level Committee (HLC), told reporters on Tuesday.
Tynsong said that he would not be able to say anything until he convened the meeting with the officials of the concerned departments.
On April 25, the HPC had agreed to be relocated from the Them Iew Mawlong on conditions that the state government should provide 200 square meters of land to each of the 342 families within the European ward besides bearing the cost of construction of their homes.
However, there has been stiff opposition from several NGOs against the HPC’s demands even as they warned that “all hell will break loose” if the state government succumbs to such unacceptable demands.
Earlier on May 4, the deputy chief minister had maintained that the blueprint will indicate the stand of the government on the HPC’s demands. He had informed that the blueprint once ready will be handed over to the HPC for consideration.
