SHILLONG, JULY 30: Three alleged overground workers of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) were nabbed by the police before they could abduct a son of an international exporter in the city on Wednesday.
East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said that the three identified as Donkupar Nongrum, Michael Pakynten and Khraw Wanniang , who are all from Mawprem are HNLC overground workers and were arrested before they could execute their plan of kidnapping the son of the exporter.
Police said the intention of the three was to first hit and make the victim unconscious before kidnapping him. However, police said the victim sustained severe injuries but did not loss his consciousness making the abductors plan for demanding for ransom go awry.
According to the police the three youths revealed that they befriend the son of the exporter and got the information about his family business activities. A police officer said, “They confessed that they were supposed to hand over the victim to the HNLC.”
The three have been remanded to eight days police custody.
East Khasi hills SP (Shillong city) Vivek Syiem said, “Initial interrogation reveals the HNLC‘s indirect plan of action in the abduction.”He informed that the police would soon come to know about the actualities in few days time.
The son of the exporter (whose name is being kept confidential) is in hospital and is out of danger.- By Our Reporter
