SHILLONG, JULY 31: The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Meghalaya Chapter today informed that the national leadership has recently lodged an FIR against two people for claiming to be as national president and general secretary of the Union.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, INTUC Meghalaya president Simon Peter Dohling said that the Union in the state has taken strong cognizance on the claim of one Dinesh Sharma and one Mehbooob Hussain of being the national president and general secretary.
Earlier last week, Sharma and Hussain, who deposed at the Shillong Press Club, told reporters that they were on a visit to the Northeastern states and had also met top party functionaries of the Congress in the state.
Dohling however said that the Meghalaya chapter has no knowledge or receive any official communication that such leaders from the Union are visiting the state but was only shocked to learn the same through media reports.
“We have informed the matter to the national leadership since our national president is G Sanjeeva Reddy, who is also an MP and Rajendra Prasad Singh is the general secretary,” he said adding when enquired about their antecedents, it was found that they (Sharma & Hussain) were not even members.
“We were also informed by Singh that an FIR has been lodged in New Delhi against the two imposters,” Dohling said.
Asked whether the group may belong to the breakaway faction of the INTUC, MPCC general secretary in-charge Labour M Das Gupta said that there has been no factionalism within the INTUC.
According to them, the national president who recently wrote to the Meghalaya chapter has informed that very soon he would be visiting the state.
Highlighting on some of the issues raised by state chapter, Dohling said that the Union have sought for special status to Khasi language in all the state and central government organizations in Meghalaya.
The other issues include – enhancement of minimum wages of daily wages to labourers in Meghalaya, exemption of income tax u/s 80P in income tax from Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank, pension facility to the employees and regularization of Mazdoor/jugali and muster roll/casual staff.
