SHILLONG, JULY 22: Twenty-five more persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 while 8 others have recovered from the infection on Wednesday.
At least seven villages in Amlarem civil sub-division of West Jaintia Hills and six villages in East Jaintia Hills have been declared as ‘containment zones’, after positive cases were detected during a random testing conducted in the market places.
Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said with the new detection, the total active cases in the state have gone up to 433.
The 25 fresh cases include 19 in East Khasi Hills (2 Air Force, 6 BSF & 11 others), 4 in West Jaintia Hills and 2 in East Jaintia Hills, he said.
He said of the eleven civilians, two are staff nurses and one diet helper, who are high risk contacts from the orthopedic ward in NEIGRIHMS while four are returnees from Assam, 1 from Arunachal Pradesh, 1 from West Bengal and 1 from Manipur.
Dr War informed that the district administrations of West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills have also notified the areas where cases have been detected as containment zones to enable contact tracing of high risk and low risk contacts of the patients.
These include seven villages – Amlarem, Krangpamtdong, Amsarim, Ladjaplem, Amshipai, Lal Lyngdoh and Amlatdoh in West Jaintia Hills and six villages – Khliehriat East, Khliehriat West, Dkhiah East, Deinchynrum, Sookilo and Mookympad in East Jaintia Hills.
Asked, the DHS said that the two cases which include a police official in East Jaintia Hills, were detected during a random testing conducted at Khliehriat market while three of the four cases in West Jaintia Hills were tested positive for COVID-19 during a random sampling test conducted at Amlarem market.
“All the patients from the two districts have been shifted to the corona care centres and some to the MCH hospital at Jowai,” he said.
Dr War further informed that 8 persons that include 4 BSF, 2 Air Force and a civilian have also recovered from the infection, taking the total recoveries in the state to 78.
East Khasi Hills has over 366 active cases that include 269 BSF troopers, 14 armed forces and 83 others.
In Ri Bhoi district where areas bordering Assam have been declared as ‘containment zone’, the number of people infected by COVID-19 is 42.
There are 12 active cases in West Garo Hills, 5 in West Jaintia Hills, 2 in South Garo Hills, 2 in East Jaintia Hills, 1 in South West Garo Hills, 1 in East Garo Hills, and 1 in North Garo Hills.
The state has recorded a total of 515 positive cases of which 4 people have so far succumbed to the disease.
The DHS also informed that out of the 29,742 swab samples sent for testing till date, 28,967 have come out negative while results of 260 were awaited.
“There are 23,309 entrants to the state from outside till date,” he added.
