SHILLONG, AUG 5: Twenty-two more persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 595.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War told reporters that the 22 new cases include 19 civilians in East Khasi Hills of which 16 are high risk contacts of positive cases in Shillong, two returnees from Assam in South West Garo Hills, and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan in West Garo Hills.
Dr War informed that of the 595 active cases, 487 are in East Khasi Hills that include 241 civilians, 188 BSF troopers and 58 armed forces personnel.
He said there are 51 active cases in Ri Bhoi, 17 in East Jaintia Hills, 16 in West Jaintia Hills, 15 in West Garo Hills, 5 in West Khasi Hills, 2 in South West Garo Hills and 2 in South Garo Hills.
The DHS also informed that nine patients have also recovered from the COVID-19 infection, taking the total recoveries in the state to 339.
The new recoveries include five in East Khasi Hills (2 civilians, 2 AF, 1 BSF) and 4 civilians in Ri Bhoi.
As of Wednesday, a total of 39,553 samples have been sent for testing, of which 38,062 were found to be negative while test results of 552 are awaited. There are 25,588 new entrants from outside till date.
The state has so far registered a total of 939 positive cases including five patients who died due to the infection.
