SHILLONG, JAN 5: UDP leader and cabinet minister, Lahkmen Rymbui said that 2021 will be a crucial year for the MDA government.
“This year is a very important year because we want to accomplish many of the projects before the end of 2022,” Rymbui told reporters on Tuesday.
He said this is a very crucial year for the government as “we have been given the mandate to fulfill the aspirations of the people.”
Rymbui is holding charge of education, home (police), district council affairs (DCA) and border area development (BAD).
Asserting that proper planning is important to achieve the government’s target, the minister said, “In the education sector, we have two model degree colleges at Rongjeng and Patharkhmah. We have to plan the type of courses we are going to offer there and how to sanction the posts.”
He also informed that the Shillong engineering college is also expected to be completed by December, this year. “We have to plan how to sanction the posts and the courses so that the college could be started in 2022,” he said.
“We also have the college of architecture with the construction in full swing in Garo Hills besides science colleges at Mawphlang and Mahendraganj – all these projects need planning so that they are completed by 2022, which is the 50th year of Meghalaya’s statehood,” he said.
On the home (police) department, Rymbui emphasized the need to restructure the police force in such a manner that it will strengthen the organization not only within the state but also at the border areas.
“We know the financial difficulties but we have to see how to restructure so that without much financial implication, we could serve the state better,” he said while informing that the government will also try to bring development through the BAD department.
