20 villages to picket against MeECL

SHILLONG, JAN 12: Twenty villages of War Jaintia in West Jaintia hills district has called for an indefinite office picketing in the Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited (MeECL) at Leshka, Pdengshakhap under Amlarem Sub-division starting from January 14 for its failure to fulfill its promises.

The decision was taken at the meeting held recently to protest against failure of the MeECL promises made to the villagers of these villages.

“The MeECL authority has failed to fulfill the various promises that include giving employment to local youth from the 20 villages and also its failure to clear the land compensation to the landowners that is pending for many years,” the leader of the twenty villages Paul Pakyntein said.

According to the Pakyntein in December 2012, the villages under the umbrella of an association had submitted a memorandum to the MeECL demanding that it should fulfill its promises but there was not respond from the MeECL authority.

Pakyntien informed, “The office picketing will start from January 14 and will continue till our demands are met.” The villages appeal to public to extend their support.- By Our Reporter
