Two members of an armed gang were arrested for looting people in North Garo Hills.
District police chief Pawar Swapnil Vasantrao on Tuesday informed that an FIR was registered with the Mendipathar police station that a group of four armed miscreants, who were coming on Aprilia scooty AS 18J -0181 and Bajaj Pulsar 220 (black) AS 18E -7925 stopped the victims and at gunpoint demanded money and took away an amount of Rs 80,000, personal documents along with 2 mobile phones with SIM cards.
The bike was later detained by villagers at Beldonpara village. However, the rider and pillion managed to escape.
He said in this connection a search operation was launched and led by DysP, Special Ops and his team from North Garo Hills DEF in the suspected hideout in the neighbouring areas of Assam and on June 24, one Sunil Boro (33) of Goalpara, Assam was arrested from Dhupdhara police station jurisdiction along with the scooty (AS 18J -0181) which was used during the commission of the crime have been duly seized from the possession.
But the other co accused Kaltu Rabha, Turti Basumatary and Sahadev Basumatary all from Dudhnoi area of Assam managed to escape.
“However, due to intense search operation conducted by the operation team, on July 1, one of the accused Turti Basumatary surrendered before the North Garo Hills police along with one semi-automatic pistol with 2 live rounds and on his leading coaccused Sahadev Basumatary was arrested from Assam-Meghalaya border near Tikrikilla, West Garo Hills,” the SP said while informing that search operation is still going on to arrest the other co-accused person.
He said that all the accused persons involved in the case are habitual offenders and previously involved in many dacoity cases in Assam and Meghalaya.
