SHILLONG, JULY 23: Nineteen more persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 while 4 patients have recovered from the infection on Thursday.
Health Minister Alexander Hek told reporters that the 19 new cases include 13 BSF troopers in East Khasi Hills, 3 in West Garo Hills and 3 in South West Garo Hills.
“The total active cases in the state have increased to 448,” he said.
The minister further informed that four patients have also recovered that includes a BSF jawan and three civilians, taking the total of recoveries from the infection to 82.
With fresh cases, East Khasi Hills has 355 active cases that include 281 BSF troopers, 14 armed forces and 80 others.
There are 42 active cases in Ri Bhoi, 15 in West Garo Hills, 5 in West Jaintia Hills, 4 in South West Garo Hills, 3 in East Jaintia Hills, 2 in South Garo Hills, 1 in East Garo Hills and 1 in North Garo Hills.
The state has recorded a total of 534 positive cases of which 4 people have so far succumbed to the disease.
The health minister also informed that out of the 30,571 swab samples sent for testing till date, 28,987 have come out negative while results of 550 were awaited.
He said 26,458 of 30,571 samples were tested at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), 2,226 at the Pasteur Institute, Shillong and 1,187 at Tura.
The pending 550 samples include 330 at NEIGRIHMS, 210 at Tura and 110 at Pasteur Institute.
“There are 23,551 entrants to the state from outside till date,” he added.
Earlier when asked, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that there has been no information received by the government on allegation about suspected cases in the deputy commissioner’s office and Forest department in Shillong.
Meanwhile, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War informed that contact tracing is going on in full swing in areas under Amlarem civil sub-division in West Jaintia Hills. “They (patients tested positive during the random testing in Amlarem) had met a lot of people but we are yet to any positive cases from among the high risk contacts traced so far,” he added.
