SHILLONG, OCT 16: Minister in-charge Arts & Culture Ronnie V Lyngdoh today inaugurated the six-day 18 Degrees Fest 2017, a multifaceted festival of art, culture, music with an aim to promote young talented youths of the state.
Addressing on the occasion, Lyngdoh said that the festival is in line with the vision of the chief minister Mukul Sangma to tap talented youths.
“The festival is also to encourage youths to showcase their talents,” he said while also lauding the initiative of the Arts & Culture department for organizing the festival held at State Central Library.
The minister was also mesmerized by the performance of the Centre of Excellence, Directorate of Arts & Culture and said, “This shows that music can really bring national integration.”
In her welcome address, Arts & Culture Director Matsiewdor War Nongbri said this year’s theme of the festival is Converge, Create Experience and Coalesce.
According to her, the festival is being organized to promote arts and the artists along with the level of sustainability.
Mukul Deva, best selling author and consultant to the United Nation, in his speech as the international guest said such a festival like the 18 degrees bring together all fine arts which can shape the youths for a more rounded view of life.
Deva is also one of the resource persons who will be sharing his experience on how to write a best selling novel during the workshop organized as part of the festival.
The six-day festival will feature various activities like Arts & Cultural programmes, Short Film Contest and Workshop, Cosplay, Photography workshop & exhibition, Literature Fest & Writing workshop with author Mukul Deva, Guitar Fest & Live Music, B-Boying & Popping Battle (Solo), Beatbox Battle, BMX & Skateboarding Show, Freestyle Motorcycling Show among others.
