SHILLONG, JAN 5: The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) on Thursday sought detailed report on the delay to arrest the six accused, who gang raped a 17 year old girl at Mawryngkneng village on January 1.
In a letter to SP (city) East Khasi Hills District and Officer in-Charge Mawryngkeng police station, SCPCR chairperson Meena Kharkongor directed the police to furnish the medical report of the victim for necessary action.
The gang rape took place at 9 pm at Mawmang locality of Mawryngkneng village on January 1, when the girl was going home from her aunt’s place, after having New Year dinner.
The accused named in the FIR filed on Wednesday includes Sanlang Kharlukhi, Rimon Surong, Requestor Mukhim, Shan Dkhar, Sanbhalang Mawthoh and Banlumlang Rynjah, all are absconding.
Condemning the gang-rape in the strongest term, Kharkongor sought action against the Sordar of Mawryngkeng village and Rangbah Dong (locality head) of Mawmang for allegedly interfering into the heinous offence.
The Commission has also come down heavily on the second in-charge of the Mawryngkneng police station for negligence of duty.
“The 2nd officer- in-charge who was present at the police station when the matter was reported verbally by the victim’s aunty, had refused to pen it down, which is unbecoming of a police officer,” the chairperson stated.
She warned under U/s 166-A CrPC it states that a police officer who refuses to record the information, shall be booked with 6 months imprisonment.
She said that this officer who was present when the gang-rape was reported should have known that it was a crime of serious.
She warned that the commission views this gang-rape seriously and this has also been brought to the notice of the SP (City) of East Khasi hills district.
