SHILLONG, AUG 13: Fourteen more persons were tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, taking the total active cases in the state to 640.
Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Alexander Laloo Hek said of the 14 new cases, eight civilians and 3 Armed Forces personnel were from East Khasi Hills district, 2 civilians from West Garo Hills district and 1 civilian from North Garo Hills.
He said the cases detected in East Khasi Hills also include a staff nurse at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), two severe acute respiratory illnesses (SARI) cases and one having travel history to Gujarat.
The case in North Garo Hills is a police official who returned from Pynthorbah, Shillong while the two cases in West Garo Hills include a shopkeeper and a returnee from Assam, he added.
Hek also informed that as many as 30 more patients have recovered from the infection today, taking the total recoveries in the state to 547.
The new recovered cases include 11 BSF troopers, 7 civilians and 2 armed forces personnel in East Khasi Hills while 7 civilians and 3 armed forces personnel in Ri Bhoi District.
With 436 (278 civilians, 86 BSF and 72 armed forces personnel from Assam Rifles and Army), East Khasi Hills is the most affected district in the state followed by West Garo Hills with 84 cases and 83 in Ri Bhoi.
In other districts, West Jaintia Hills has 16 cases, six in East Jaintia Hills, six in North Garo Hills, three in West Khasi Hills, 3 in South Garo Hills, 2 in South West Garo Hills and 1 in South West Khasi Hills.
As of Thursday, a total of 42,706 samples have been sent for testing, of which 41,097 were found to be negative while test results of 416 are awaited. There are 27,522 entrants from outside the state till today.
Meanwhile, the state has recorded 1,193 positive COVID-19 cases that include 640 active and six deaths so far from the viral infection.
