Shillong, Feb 6: Nine candidates from East Khasi hills and three from West Khasi hills districts filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) election slated for February 24 on the second day of filing of nomination. The last date for filing of nomination papers is February 10.
In East Khasi hills two KHADC Executive Members (EM) were among the eight who filed their nomination papers on Thursday with the Returning Officers (RO) at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The candidates include two Congress MDCs – Marbok Kharpran from Sohryngkham constituency and Lamphrang Blah from Mawphlang-Diengiei constituency. Both are also the sitting EMs of KHADC.
The other Congress candidates who filed their nominations are Jansing Tynsong from Langkyrdem-Laitkhroh and Anthony Khongwang from Nongskhen constituency.
From the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), Elphrin Lawai from Sohryngkham and former MLA Pynshai Manik Syiem from Mawphlang – Diengiei also filed their nomination.
Two candidates from the United Democratic Party (UDP) – B Kharbuli from Mawphlang – Diengiei and Edastar Lyngdoh Nongbri for Nongkrem constituencies filed their nomination papers.
Vicky S Lyngdoh ,brother of sitting Congress legislator Ronnie V Lyngdoh, filed his nomination paper as an independent candidate after he was denied Congress ticket. He is contesting from Nongthymmai constituency against sitting KHNAM MDC Latiplang Kharkongor.
Vicky S Lyngdoh told reporters that it is a blessing in disguise for not getting the Congress ticket. He said, “It has happen for good. In fact with Congress denying the ticket to me, I have been able to garner support from different political parties.”
WEST KHASI HILLS: In West Khasi hills the candidates who filed their nomination papers on the second day includes Kimfa Marbaniang, Tlidingstone Wanniang and Srally Rashir.
Marbaniang filed his application for 28 Rambrai Jyrngam constituency as Congress candidate, Wanniang, an ex MDC, filed his papers for 27 Nongstoin constituency as Independent Political Group (NIPG) candidate and Rashir filed his papers for the 29 Mawshynrut constituency as a candidate from Congress.- By Our Reporter
